Resolving Problems encountered after installing Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2
Symptoms:
After installing Windows XP Service Pack 2 (“XP SP2”) in your EFS Front-End client PC, you may encounter the following problem(s) while viewing details of your EFS submission.
· Clicking a PDF file link in the Submission/Document Details page does not open the PDF file on your local PC.
Cause:
The problem is caused by an enhanced security feature that is included in XP SP2. This enhanced security feature helps protect your computer from attacks by malicious users or by malicious software, such as computer viruses, by preventing users from opening local files in IE under certain circumstances. Opening a local file (from a webpage) is now disabled by default in SP2.
Resolution:
Download and run a patch program as follows.
1. Click on sp2fix.zip and save it to a local folder (e.g: C:\Windows\Temp).
2. In Windows Explorer, open the local folder where sp2fix.zip is saved, and unzip it (you should now get fe-xpsp2.reg).
3. Double-click on fe-xpsp2.reg file to run it. You will see the following dialog boxes. Click Yes, then OK.

4. Clear your browser Temporary Internet files as follows:
· On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
· Click Delete Cookies, and then click OK.
· Click Delete Files, and then click OK.
· Click Clear History, and then click Yes.
· Click OK.
5. Restart Windows.
6. When Windows is restarted logon to Windows and EFS. The functions should now work normally.
More Information:
After installing this
patch, whenever you click a link to local PDF file, you will see the following
prompt. Click Yes to proceed.
(Important Note: Always check to ensure that Current
site shown is: www.efs.com.sg)

If you see the following prompt, click Open. The PDF file will be opened in another Window. (You may uncheck Always ask before opening this type of file option to suppress this message subsequently.)
