Latest Development on EFS (Phase 6 – January 2005)
Last Updated: 07 March 2005
1. What’s new in EFS Phase 6?
EFS Phase 6 (launched on 10 January 2005) introduces the following modules and features.
· Criminal proceedings in the High Court and the Court of Appeal (excluding the Subordinate Courts)
· The new Document Information Page (aka Cover Page) template
Moreover, the following new functions/features are also introduced to FE application, as part of Phase 6.
· Case-centric approach (to create and work with case files)
· One-click File-and-Serve (to request automatic service of documents when filing)
· New Super Tray (to organize your EFS messages based on case files)
· Hearing schedule information (to view hearing schedules of your cases via FE)
· Compose/Preview of Doc Info Page (to create and reuse the new DIP templates)
· Several UI enhancements
2. Where can I find the court procedures for the DIP and EFS Phase 6?
The procedures to be complied with in respect of the new document information page and the electronic filing of criminal proceedings can be found respectively in the Supreme Court Practice Directions 1 of 2005 and 2 of 2005. (Alternatively, you may visit the Supreme Court website www.supremecourt.gov.sg/; Legislation and Directions -> Practice Directions (then click on amendments where you can see PD 1/2005 and PD 2/2005.).
3. What is the Document Information Page (DIP)?
WEF 10 January 2005, the new Document Information Page template comes into effect. The new DIP will replace the (previous) cover page and backing page which are usually included in a court document. The new DIP page(s) will be auto-generated by the Court and returned to you upon acceptance of your document filed. Therefore, there is no need to include any cover page(s) and backing page(s) in your PDF document filed to Court, when filing via the Front-End application. (You just have to compose and send the DIP template in your submission. See below.)
However, when filing documents to Court via a CrimsonLogic service bureau, you still need to prepare a backing sheet, which will be used as the new DIP. Please ensure that the case title and other information on your backing sheet occupies only the right half of the page lengthwise, as the left half of the page must be left blank for the Court's seal and annotations to be printed. You may check with the Service Bureau for further advice.
4. Which documents require a DIP? How do I prepare the DIP?
While creating a draft submission, add the document(s) to be filed in the Submission Information page, as usual. After the document(s) are added into draft submission but before saving it, check the new Compose Doc Info (Cover) Page column in the Document List table. A small icon will be shown for each document which requires a DIP. Click on each icon to compose the DIP. Edit the DIP details if needed. Preview and save the DIP.
Please refer to this document for further details. (Right-click and select Save Target, to download.)
5. Why does the estimated filing fee show an additional 1 page for each document filed?
The DIP page(s) are generated by Court and replied to you upon acceptance of your document. EFS filing fees are estimated by assuming that one (1) additional DIP page will be generated for each document filed. The actual no. of DIP pages (and the corresponding filing fees) will be determined and shown in the Court Reply, and the no. of additional DIP page could be more than the estimate.
6. Why was my PDF document rejected ? Which PDF version should I use for EFS?
The standard PDF version accepted by the Courts is PDF 1.3 (using Acrobat version 4.x). If you use the Adobe® Acrobat® software versions higher than 4.x, then you need to save/scan your PDF documents in PDF 1.3 format. To be sure, verify the version of your PDF document to be 1.3 before filing it.
Please refer to this document for instructions on saving a Word document in PDF 1.3 format. To configure your scanner to save in PDF 1.3 format, refer to your scanner user guide, or contact your vendor.
7. What are new court documents introduced in Phase 6?
